TEHRAN (IQNA) – Receiving Khums became common during the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) time.

Khums in Islam

1- In verses of the Quran and in Hadiths Zakat has been mentioned more than Khums. Maybe it is because, except a few in Mecca and in some tribes who were traders, most people lived by farming and raising livestock.

Nonetheless, the Prophet (PBUH) would send some individuals to different regions to collect Khums.

For example, it has been recorded in history that the Prophet (PBUH) sent Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS), Amr ibn Hazm and Maaz ibn Jabal to Yemen and Muhammiya to Bani Zayd tribe to collect Khums.

2- Addressing delegations who came to see him, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) pointed to (the need for paying) Khums in addition to talking about Salah and Zakat.
